Self-Development

"The moment a teacher stops learning, is the moment they stop being a teacher." -Howard Hendricks, Author and Professor at Dallas Theological Seminary

I will take it a step further.  The moment you stop learning, you stop growing.  As a student of Jesus you need to be a life longer learner.  This include unlearning many things that stunt your development as a Christ follower.  We have all been shaped by our environment, experience, relationships, nearly everything that we have come in contact with through our lifetime.  These things have made us who we are today.  Unfortunately, many of those things warped us.  You see, God has a desire, a picture of how he wants you to turn out. A clue to that portrait is found in his son Jesus.  However, a sinful world and a sinful nature has caused us to veer far from his ultimate design.  God wants us to submit to him and enter into the process of allowing the Spirit to help us unlearn the way we have learned to live life and discover the way he desires it to be lived.

This is where self-development can play a role.  By adopting a life habit of learning from Jesus, we can begin to pursue his desired way of life. This will require that you be intentional in your activities and be willing to expose yourself to new concepts on how to live the Jesus way of life.  It will take some discipline to develop the areas of your life where you may be currently falling short of God's standard.
